Blackeyed Theatre return to artsdepot with a gripping adaptation of Bram Stoker's chilling tale.

The year is 1897. Mankind is on the cusp of vast technological change, scientific mastery and media innovation. But poised between traditional beliefs, the threat of the unknown and the shock of the new world, an altogether darker fear is emerging. As a new shadow looms large over England, a small group of young men and women, lead by Professor Van Helsing, are plunged into an epic struggle for survival.

Stretching from London, through provincial England, to the mountainous wastes of Transylvania, Bram Stoker’s timeless gothic thriller embodies the struggle to break taboos, resist temptation and stop the unknown outside becoming the enemy within.

Adapted by Nick Lane, this brilliant, theatrical treatment of Bram Stoker’s adventure blends Victorian Gothic with the Contemporary, showcasing Blackeyed Theatre’s trademark ensemble performance style and featuring a haunting soundscape, powerful performances and innovative design for an exhilarating theatrical experience.

Blackeyed Theatre return to artsdepot following Oh What A Lovely War in 2023 and Sherlock Holmes – The Valley of Fear in 2024.

The Stage

Audio Described performances are designed for blind or visually impaired audience members. The actors’ dialogue is incorporated with live commentary that explains what is happening on stage. Audience members can listen to this via a headset and this doesn’t affect other audience members’ experience of the show.

Where possible, we also schedule a pre-show Touch Tour on the same day as an Audio Described performance, allowing audiences to explore the set and costumes and immerse themselves in the imaginary world of the show.

These performances are signed for the benefit of audience members who use sign language. Trained British Signed Language (BSL) interpreters usually stand to one side of the stage and interpret the script used by the performers; in these cases we’ve marked on the seating plan where you’ll get the best view of the signer.

For some shows (like our upcoming The Gruffalo and The Gruffalo’s Child), the BSL interpreter is integrated into the performance and will move around with the performers.

Touch Tours give blind or visually impaired audience members an opportunity to go up on stage and touch parts of the set, props and costumes to help immerse themselves in the imaginary world on stage. They can also be attended by anyone who would benefit from familiarising themselves with the auditorium and set before attending a performance.

Touch Tours usually take place 1 hour before the performance start time, but please check with the Box Office as this can vary.

To attend a Touch Tour, please contact the Box Office on 020 8369 5454 or email boxoffice@artsdepot.co.uk at least 48 hours before the touch tour.
