We offer a programme of work experience for learning disabled young people aged 16 - 24 in late Autumn each year.
Over the first 4 months, participants visit artsdepot weekly, taking part in workshops with each department in the venue and learning what is required to run a busy, professional arts venue. The programme aims to develop the young people’s understanding of potential routes into careers and opportunities in the arts as well as developing leadership and employability skills. Participants also work towards Arts Award qualifications.
The programme acts as an introduction to work in the arts and culture sector, with an ambition is to support participants to gain paid employment.
The programme is delivered in collaboration with a broad range of partner organisations where, following their first months at artsdepot, participants will carry out work experience placements. Previous partners have included Chickenshed, Community Focus, icandance and Face Front Theatre, among others.
Partner organisations gain an opportunity to develop a more diverse and positive arts and culture workforce while actively creating a more accessible workplace that challenges deeply entrenched inequalities in employment.
